Day 116, Wednesday, 13.05.2009

I was happy I didn’t need to pull into Warruwi on Goulburn Island, although David Winkworth already organized a local contact to look after me. But it would mean a detour, and too early to stop already for the night. I’d rather stick to the mainland and was heading for White Point, but decided turning around the corner was too far offcourse as well. 55 km wasenough for that day in the scheduled plan. So I stayed right across Goulburn Island on the mainland, an easy beach with nothing special.

Or yes, I had a seasand scrub and a short swim again, the water looked so inviting croc and shark free… Hooked on the internet again for e-mails in the very early morning at 4am, couldn’t sleep anymore, but at night I am simply too tired and rather do some phone calls.

Text message from Freya via satellite phone:

11.41 133.20 Macquarie Strait. 55 km,  7:00 am to 5:30 pm nothing special on this day…no need to go into Goulburn Island, got plenty of water refilled on North East Point by an Aboriginal teacher’s family driving by in a car and getting it from Maningrida – a godsend!

Note from Chris Cunningham:

If you’re interested in Freya’s cumulative milage log, you’ll find it here on her web site under the “Australia” tab. From there go to “Please read my trip report!” and then to the “Trip dates table.” That link will download an Excel spread sheet.

Well done Freya. Manangrida is a special place (at least for me): so pleased local assistance has been provided. Ahead will be many days of hard slog and open spaces…. just like this land. Chris has set up details of your paddle so far. So impressive and so inspirng for you and others to go and just do it.
