Day 250, Thursday, 24.09.2009

Lorna took me to Margaret River today, shopping, sightseeing, lunch…we had a look at the world famous surf beach at swell height 7-8m. It was that massively crashing breaking with strong 30kn winds out of the wrong sw direction that not a single surfer’s bum was out there. Just a pity that a picture can’t really tell you how BIG it was!

Besides that, I was working online, Google Earth, e-mails, updates, guest book, gear check, food packing and so on…good to have a beautiful dry house and  a lovely host to stay with!

Thanks, Lorna!

If Tasmania is included, I reckon there will be plenty of volunteers for company to do the Bass Strait crossing – it’s regarded as the ultimate challenge for local paddlers isn’t it?

Want to see live footage of the coastline and surf conditions Freya is paddling through?
The link below is a surfing website that has cameras set up to check out the local break at beaches along the Oz foreshore. Check out the link to cameras in Western Australian, South Australia and Victoria. Use Google Earth to see if the cameras are located near Freyas current position.

Can you tell I am constantly thinking….where is she???
How’s the water / wind / tide / swell???
These surf cams will give us the conditions live.
Enjoy

Good luck with the next leg to Windy Harbour Freya; one of the professional fisherman down here told me that motoring his boat to Windy Harbour is hard enough let alone paddling it! For anyone who hasn’t seen the seas around the cape let me just say that spending even 1 hour out there at this time of year is a big ask for an experienced paddler. If your computer goes down again you know how to get a hold of me. Awesome effort Freya keep it up.

With 250 days down and 10,200 kilometers behind her, Freya has 114 days to go (to break paul caffyn’s record that is). Now all she has ahead of her is (roughly) 3000 kilometers on the roughest ocean Australia has to offer. Hard to imagine her not making it now; but it’s still a Herculean task. Reality TV was never so good!

Glad to hear that you are on the home stretch. Congratulations on the journey so far. You are an absolute inspiration. Enjoy a wine or two in the Margaret River and celebrate your achievements so far and the adventures to come.

To put another slant on an old irish blessing:
May the swell rise to push you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, as you complete Freya’s great race.

Hi Freya!

When my wife and I were in Margaret River a few years ago we enjoyed wonderful red wine. So try to get some as well.

Greetings from Christoph
