Hello Freya, Are you back in the water and is everything going good ? I’m not sure where yoiu are at this point, Drop me an email if you have time ok, Good luck and keep paddling. Warren

Well, Peter
it is meant to be a solo circumnavigation. Having a support boat along would defeat that objective. Freya does choose to do things the hard way, and if anyone can do it, she can.

We here in Germany hope that the australian paddle guys helps to defend our powerfull Freya fightihng against crocs and stinger ( for me it was, until reading this, only a part of a surfboad). Why are there not some people on the water to acompany her? Is it difficult to find her, or is she just to fast 🙂 ?

Lumpi

Thanks, Mick Martin: I must endorse this advise! The submarine crocodiles are of specific fast aggressive nature. Local guidance is needed to avoid critical areas or landing spots.

Mick Martin

Well done on your trip so far.

As you go further north be sure to talk to the locals about marine stingers AKA box jellyfish (and of course crocodiles). According to http://www.qldbeaches.com/stingers.html stinger season is “From Cape York to Townsville – October to June and From Townsville to Gladstone – December to March” so you may have missed most of the main season. But it’s best to be careful.

Good luck and keep paddling !

Hi Freya The cyclone may have been a blessing in one way or another, giving your body time to heal and recover but also we,ve noticed the water tempeture has cooled considerably since it,s passed. I,m a mate of Matt Carter whom you,ve met, and after speaking to him recently he told me to contact you and part with some knowledge i have for this neck of the woods that may be of assistance to you.I,ve paddled a surf ski from makay to cairns and know this area well. I dont know if you,ve taken off yet, but my suggestion would be to go through the narrows inside curtis island. The tide comes in from both ends,so if you work with the tides and make it to the cattle crossing, which is about half way,you will catch the tide running out. If you need to contact me my mobile no is 0419772478

Ahh, don’t take it so hard, a few days rest will do you good. At least it sounds like you are very nicely tucked up to ride out the storm. Could be worse if you were out at sea in it.
Better luck next day I’m sure,
ATB

I’ve enjoyed paddling a small portion of your expedition, Gold Coast to Cairns in 1999, also got stuck in Urangan due to foul weather. Must be a right of passage thing!? You have some amazing coastline ahead and my memories are causing me to be quite jealous. There is a great campsite in Coconut Bay on the southern side of Cape Upstart, hopefully it will be welcoming to you!
Thoughts are with you Lady, enjoy your journey!!!

I’m a bit ashamed. I’ve ducked from my tent into a motel just to get out of the way of a few measly tornado’s and now I see this! The girls are showing the guys up nowadays. Have some big fun!
