If I’d have expected strong head wind most times, today not…after 15 km with only under 10 knots headwind, the wind breezed up to the daily 15+, but also turned to full, almost over north! I went mostly 100 degrees, and had it mostly full behind me first then behind the left shoulder. Nice push! Still not too fast going, as the waves came perpendicular and confused the sea. But unlike approaching Puerto Cumarebo two days ago with teeth gritted into 15+ knots, this paddle was relaxed. I had my breaks on the water as usual, at the end of the day I crossed a bay and was lucky to find a beach, as eventually cliffs are dominating. Some palm tree plantations, and lots of bush. So if it is like that the next days, I’d be content with the Caribbean in this direction! 🙂

On my beach is nobody, good. I even got shade early from the cliffs behind me, even better! And can catch some breeze for ventilation. This is how a paddling day can end! Not too long time paddled, 10 hours are enough. Around Australia, I averaged 11 hours, but also did not write a long update *every* night. It takes some time! And I am getting older and don’t need to race anyone anymore, hahaha 🙂
Not more to write today, need to cook Spaghettis now…

Hi Freya, we are following your blog closely as our paths are nearby once again… you might recall in 2009 I picked you up from Eagle Bay, near Busselton, Western Australia after you crossed Geographe Bay and you stayed with Malcolm and Evelyn for 2 nights (Days 243/244). My kids were keen to see the shark bite on your kayak! Now 4 years later we are sailing on a yacht with our 3 kids in the Caribbean, currently in Grenada. We are wondering whether you will be paddling in Trinidad or will you follow the Venezuela coast? Also, a word of warning – make sure the coastguard is escorting you as much as possible.
