Some chaotic tent life

Pos: here
Loc: Isla Stewart Bahia Escape
Acc: tent
Dist: 0 km

It was a rest day – the first of two, as Sunday will be even worse with over twenty knots headwinds. It may have been around twenty knots in the morning, easing a tad around 4 pm, but it was raining all day, and the visibility very low, so it is not really tempting to go out of the tent at all. I was out there twice, for two minutes each to check the sea state, this was enough 🙂

For Monday, there is still some hope to have around 15-18 knots south west, which will even be better for paddling the rest along Isla Stewart, and hopefully cross 13 km to an island which my chart shows no name of, and to be in a bit of better shelter until I eventually turn north and even north east. But it may change…

My day consisted of sleeping, reading, dozing, eating, peeing, and talking briefly to my boyfriend on the phone. He told me that the book about me and my Australian trip “Fearless” by Joe Glickman is already on sale on Amazon now, and getting the first great reviews, hopefully not only from good friends :-).

If you haven’t ordered it yet, now it’s high time to do so before it is sold out! 🙂 I am hoping Joe and the editor of the publisher did a final great job, as I was not reading the latest version yet, only gave some corrections and additions on the first versions. It is yet not “my” book, but a book about me! Maybe even more honorable than if I’d been writing it myself…

I heard also of a team of four Argentine paddlers paddling at the same time now from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia, the much more clever direction regarding the winds! But I have no other choice in my job to go around South America! Maybe I’ll run into them the next days, maybe not. It is very easy to miss each other in this maze of islands and bays, and they may be paddling happily with the wind, while I’m having a rest day or such…but they will have a way more harder job to find a campsite for four people! Not sure if two tents, or a big four-men tent…at least my spot now I can recommend well.

Justine Curgenven from Cackle TV and her partner Barry Shaw seem to be in Rio Grande now to continue their circumnavigation of Tierra del Fuego which they had to stop last year due to Barry’s bad wrist. I am hoping they will be more successful this year, and Justine will bring great footage of those areas I have already been to myself! At least they will have it easier now, following my updates with plenty of information.

And no worries, I’m still not interested to close the short distance to finish the full loop around Tierra del Fuego along the Magellan Strait, you may do it as the first team, so all kudos are still open to you! 🙂 I’m into continents now, not into islands any more, it would seem like a step back in my own trip goal to paddle east again on Magellan Strait…and sorry, I am sounding very arrogant!!! :-))

Actually, I’m very much looking forward to Justine’s usually great footage about the trip, as she is well known to make the great videos of the “This is The Sea” series. I am even hoping that they will even make it around Cape Horn as well on their way, bringing pictures of this famed area. But don’t even think of landing on Isla Deceit…

Reviewing her footage on “TITS IV” about their trip around New Zealand South bring me back some great memories as well, having circumnavigated that island already earlier by myself!

As Freya quite rightly points out, Justine Curgenven makes some wonderful kayak & canoe videos. If you’ve not seen her “This is the Sea” series (four different videos up to now), do yourself a favor and get them (available from Cackle TV, Justine’s company). Freya makes an appearance in at least one of the shows.

Freya…You do sound arrogant 😉 Not unlike many other explorers having planned and accomplished monumental expeditions….We plan to enjoy your arrogance with you, because we understand the level of self awareness and self confidence necessary to continue day after day on a solo journey of such ambition…Good for you, little German girl!

In my travel guide “Chile a remote corner on earth” in part 7, i believe to recognize your following route. It´s a part of the Charles Darwin route. Right ?

I hope you meet the other four paddlers.

Your book “Fearless” is on the top of my birthday wishes. At that time you arrive surely in puerto montt or further.

Bin gespannt ob du die Argentinier triffst. Ja und Justine und Barry sind auf dem Weg um Tierra del Fuego. Da ist ja richtig was los da unten 🙂
