Pos: here
Loc: before Cabo de la Vela
Acc: room in police station Puerto Bolivar

I even managed to get some sleep from an early 5 pm, as I agreed with David to get picked up at already 11 pm with the car, to drive the short way down to the bay and to load my kayak back on the coast guard boat. I was just good in shifting my bio rythm! 🙂

But my cell phone rang at 10.30 pm – it was David, who told me the boat had to go out now to rescue a fisherman and we couldn’t go this night…aha. But next night we would go!

I had to take it, and I kept on sleeping, which was not that easy as I have slept already the last two days quite a bit, and since 5 pm. The air condition was a blessing, but my fleece blanket was not really warm enough for the highest temperature coming out of that freezer box! I put on my fortunately washed hooded fleece paddling shirt, a scarf around head and neck and the sleeping mask to avoid the constant chilly blowing air. Additionally, I pulled a t-shirt around my legs. Plus ear plugs I had in anyway against the occasionally train noise just 100 m away, the air condition noise and the on top loudness blasting through the station squeaking police radio. It may have been fun to understand what they said, but for me it is just noise. Well, all better than staying a few days on a hot beach!

I followed the forecast all day, and unfortunately it changed for the next three days from around 10-15 knots (just ok) to around 15 – 20 knots (not ok any more). But Thursday to Sunday, as far and as good the forecast goes, are still very low wind days, mostly below 10 knots. If it stays those days like that, I can still make it around the capes and the windy top…let’s hope for the best!

But now I have the outlook to stay allover SIX days in my single cell in the police station! The longest weather break on my whole trip! And this is only day three… It is not much worth to go outside in the middle of the desert in the heat heat, and I am close to this fenced area anyway. I have only my cell phone, laptop and e-book for entertainment, and the occasionally food cooking. Better than nothing or to stay on the beach with limited batteries and heat.

But as my flight is booked for th 8th, and the weather outlook for Thursday 2nd onward is amazingly still good, there are not many options now than just to stay put and to kill time with reasonable online work and then five days of power paddling for the missing 200 km to the border…hopefully!

Sorry to hear of the bad wind weather delay. Hopefully you can rest well and not go too stir-crazy.I hate to sit around waiting, as I’m sure you do as well.Rest up for the final 200 km of this leg. Safe Paddling.Loved the pictures BTW

Wünsche Dir besseres Wetter für die letzten 200km.
Deine Bilder sind mal wieder toll. Die Schildkröte war ja echt riesig.

We can’t fight Mother Nature, so it’s best to go with the flow. Hope you don’t get too bored on these days off from paddling, Freya, and that your skin is healing nicely. Once back on the water, I’ve no doubt you’ll knock those 200 km out in no time!
