My "watch dog" during the night approaching Lebu and on the whole Wednesday...

Pos: here
Loc: Caleta Trana
Acc: tent
Dist: 57,0 km
Start: 8:30 End: 18:25

All went well with the launch this morning – the guys loaded my kayak again on the trailer, and we drove back to the same beach where I was landing in darkness on Monday night. The port captain came as well to wave me good bye. Thanks to the Navy in Lebu to look so nice after me!

The port captain told me there would be again the same boat escorting me, but I told him I’d really not need a boat today! He promised to call them back soon, none the less the boat was out with me all day. Nice, but quite useless from my point of view! They were staying at first close, then obviously got bored as well, and drove further away around.

This type of boat was a much smaller one than the others, and I saw no zodiac or dinghy on board to be able to set off over the high side. What, if? How would they rescue me if they had to? No idea…besides the captain, there were three young guys on board.

After I crossed Bahia Carnero, I was paddling as usual quite close to the coast to enjoy the scenery and the waves crashing on the rocks, but it is not a good place to leave the kayak and to go swimming! Well, I was really far away from that possibility, conditions were easy with calm winds and seas with some bigger swell. Nothing scary or dangerous at all. Later, the wind breezed up quite a bit from the south, but it only gave me a nice push. No unexpected breakers anywhere.

I had to watch the rocks where some heavy breakers were crashing, but keep your distance, and if in doubt, stay out! Rounding Punta Lavapie, I gave it a very wide berth around the last breaking rocks, though I thought some incoming fishing boats were taking a shortcut some where and I was tempted to do the same. Well, I was not local…rather play it safe. This was also the point where the Navy boat eventually waved me good bye! Nice escort, guys, but what for? and for tomorrow, I really don’t need another boat…

The first calm beach after the point was a bigger fishing village with a bunch of moored boats, and I already thought my “quiet nice beach” I found on Google Earth would be this one where I could have landed on kind of a city beach, guarded with a Tsunami break wall all along and plenty of fishing boats also on land. I would not have had my peace there!

Soon I noticed, I meant to land on the next beach around the corner, which was just perfect!  A small dumper to land, which still could give you a wash with sand water, if you don’t take care…a bunch of holiday houses, all seemingly empty right now. No one was bothering me camping on the beach Good!

Tomrrow I’ll head to Caleta Lenga, another 60 km, wher my local contact, a student girl named Jeimy Munoz, will be waiting for me to host me for a day. Thanks, Jeimy!

I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your site. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme? Great work!

Hey! Someone in my Myspace group shared this website with us so I came to check it out. I’m definitely loving the information. I’m book-marking and will be tweeting this to my followers! Excellent blog and excellent design and style.

Freya, Du donnerst die Küste ja nur so hoch. Du bist ja wirklich bald in Valparaiso. Wie schaffst Du das nur? Bin begeistert.

Ah, when you take your much-earned rest after this leg of your journey, I don’t know what I shall do, being unable to read your blog. I cannot express how greatly I enjoy it, or how much I look forward to it daily.
Stay safe – you’re nearly in the home-stretch for this section!
