Camera display fixing help needed!

Is there anybody out there who knows if there is any chance about getting a fully black camera display of an Olypus Stylus 1030 SW shining again?

It just stopped working – apparently the rest of the camera works, but not much use without display.

I bought it online in the US – I don’t have no more bills or paperwork handy…so if there is no trick or no handyman around to get it working again, I probably have to get a new camera :-(( …but luckily I have a second spare one for now! But I’ll need two…just in case another problem occurs :-((

Another option is to take the camera apart and wash it in methylated spirits. my wife dropped her phone in the loo whilst it was turned on and it looked unrecoverable. however, after removing the battery, washing the unit in a bath of meths, drying it out in the sun, it made a full recovery! obviously this is just for last options. it will certainly remove moisture and possibly salt built ups on circuitry. cameras may be more sensitive and you will need to be extremely careful taking it apart so as not to lose anything and to remember how it goes back together…

An ove n set at 150 degrees farenheit will sometimes dry out the electronics but not fry anything.

My Olympus waterproof is now sitting in their repair depot – went “poof” after 1.5 years of fresh/salt water exposure. Their warranty will cover repairs IF camera less than a year old; otherwise, they have a max. repair quote they will give you (is model-specific; mine was the older 790SW and cost me $111 Cdn – still better than buying a new one!). Good luck in this and all your endeavours to come

Hi Freya
Congratulations on your amazing progress. There is a RESET function that you wont be able to see because your screen is blank but the steps are : Menu, LEFT cursor, OK, UP cursor, OK. This resets all the factory settings and might get your screen back but wont delete images or anything like that. The screen going blank isn’t good though, this is how my Olympus eventualy died except mine was after it got dropped and the screen had coloured lines scrolling down, having said that it survived heaps of punishment including 2 months circumnavigating Tasmania. Theye are a great camera, it has just been superceeded by the Tough 8000 which is now 12 Megapixels, Good luck and stay safe.

Freya, I had the same problem with my brand new 1030SW. Manufacture gave me a new one which failed within 2 weeks. I bought a Pentax Optio W60 and haven’t had any problems. I know this doesn’t help with your current situation, but thought I’d share.
